Closing ceremony of the JTF project “Seafarers and fishermen between gender-based violence and access to sexual and reproductive health services” Agadir

As part of the « JTF » project on the health of seafarers and fishermen, including sexual and reproductive health, which is part of the Japanese government’s program to support member federations of the International Planned Parenthood Federation ( IPPF), in order to strengthen sexual and reproductive health services in Africa and Asia, the closing ceremony of the project is organized on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Hotel Sofitel – Agadir, in the presence of the Ambassador of Japan in Morocco .

At the initiative of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Moroccan Family Planning Association implemented the project, in partnership with the Japanese Embassy in Morocco and the Regional Delegation of Fishing in Agadir, for two years (2020-2022 ).

This project is a unique experience that finds its intimacy in the field of services provided to this segment of society, in particular the category
fragile, requiring strengthening of sexual and reproductive health services.

The project aims to increase the access of 14,000 sailors in Agadir to sexual and reproductive health services and to contribute to the reduction of gender-based violence through: the availability of sexual and reproductive health services, access information, psychological support and advocacy for the adoption of reproductive health policies in the workplace and by the parties Participation in the fish sector in Agadir.

The achievements made to achieve the objectives of the project can be summed up in the training of 40 peer educators, in particular representatives of sailors and fishermen’s cooperatives in Agadir, in the field of integral sexual education and diagnosis to ensure orientation and follow-up of cases of neck victims based on gender, as well as the organization of information and awareness days on sexual and reproductive health, family planning, the carrying out of medical examinations for seafarers and members of their families in the field of sexual and reproductive health and the provision of medicines to them, equip the medical unit of the port of Agadir with an ultrasound device to help in the diagnosis of urological and gynecological problems, equip this unit and computer sailor
